Some Pedestrians is a five-piece hardcore band out of Belgium. This band knows how to thrash it up and mix it up instrumentally. I can only imagine how insane their live shows must be.
Instrumentally, this album has an excellent array of hardcore breakdowns and insane mathcore riffs, which give this album a unique sound that every band is looking for. In addition to the breakdowns and riffs, virtually every song either starts out softly or starts out hard and fast and then has a soft spot in the middle. These soft spots definitely break up the tempo of the song and keep the listener off balance. I have to say that the mathcore riffs are some of the best I have ever listened to and the rest of the band is excellent as well. The instruments are played very elaborately on Blackbird.
Lyrically, the vocals are extremely raw which give some character to the album. Jurgen has some excellent raw screams; however, some of his clean vocals are a bit off key. I would say over all that the lyrics are decent and do not drowned out the instruments, which is common now a days.
The tracks that stand out on this album are “Hands Tied” and my favorite “Eleonore.” Both of these songs have some amazing breakdowns and mathcore riffs. However, with the soft spots embedded in these tracks, I wonder what it would be like in the pit? Do you go all out for part of the song then take a breather and then start slamming skulls again? To bad, I live in the United States because I have to believe that their live shows are amazing.
All in all this is a very solid album from Some Pedestrians. It is not flawless but it is still worth picking up if you are a fan of heavy breakdowns and mathcore riffs.
