A big part of the problem how music is consumed is labeling music into genres. 21st century has taught us that throwing 5 different names (which just lack common sense) at one musical group is clearly not the brightest way to describe music. Although kudos for the attempt.
While I was reviewing Winter Dusts album “Colors of the Post-Storm“ I found myself in the same mess. I was unable to catogorize them.   The band leaves their signature on every song, and its enjoyable that they use certain tehniques and patterns which have grown into their own.  But at the same time i feel the album is wandering off from the theme they created with the intro song and as the songs go on theres a lot of different ideas blending. The future is less brighter maybe even confusing.

The album starts with the most promising “Post-War” which is highlighted with a sad, yet powerful piano theme, which has more of a classical taste rather than rock or pop. I’m amazed with the drumwork, its simple but works from the start till the end. Even more, its highly effective, for the energy it adds to the tune. The song adds certain expectations to the album. For me, the song is clearly the best one on the album.

After the first song, my ears starts to show the signs of tiredness. The ideas are getting weaker and less relevant. Im a bit dissapointed, as I said the first song adds big expectations. Songs are getting somewhat less focused.

The fourth song “Moonlight” achieves everything the band proposes to present with the album. Its haunting enough for me to erase the doubt that leaked into my mind because of two previous songs. I’m curious again, I’m in need to find out more. “Moonlight” sounds more like an interlude track, but its hair lifting enough to stand independent from the album.
The album ends with a song in Italian. Interesting, but not captivating. Though, it has very catchy vocal melodies.

Winter Dust is talented, there is not a doubt. And the album is better than average releases. But as I said, they are capable to create absolutely mindblowing songs with strong harmony and interesting ideas. They prooved it with songs like “Post-War” and “Moonlight”.
But other than that I feel like the album was put together in hurry. I’m waiting for bigger things from Winter Dust.
